(28 November 2025 to 21 January 2026)
On this quiet night, a single mother sat in silence, with her baby sound asleep in her arms. There were no guests to welcome but there was a steady warmth of love between them. In that still moment, it was enough. Heather* reflected on the journey, counting her blessings and the support that had carried her through.
Homeless, unemployed and heavily pregnant. Heather’s world was falling apart. Losing her job meant losing the only shelter she had - the company van , she faced motherhood with quiet strength, receiving only little support from the baby’s father. A few nights in a budget hotel offered momentary relief, but most days were filled with uncertainty.
Heather eventually gave birth to a baby girl and named her Adelina*. With a heavy heart, she made one of the hardest decisions a mother could face which was entrusting her newborn to Boys’ Town Sanctuary Care, a respite care service recommended by the hospital’s social worker.
Heather came to understand that giving Adelina temporary stability through Sanctuary Care was the most loving choice she could make. During this vulnerable period, Adelina was warmly cared for by respite carers who treated her like family and surrounded her with affection. The respite carers were also supported by dedicated social workers from Sanctuary Care who guided them through the process, ensuring the baby was well cared for.
Meanwhile, Heather used this time to find housing, secure a job and rebuild her life. She now lives in a rental room and is working. Adelina, now a happy, thriving toddler, is in childcare.
Heather’s journey is a testament to a mother’s strength and the power of support. This Christmas may we remember every child deserves a safe home and every parent deserves a helping hand.
"Sanctuary Care gave me hope when I was at my lowest. The carers were so loving and they planned every visit thoughtfully. Knowing my baby girl was in safe, loving arms brought me much comfort. I am grateful." - Heather
