YOUTHREACH SERVICES

Provides outreach, intervention and advocacy for at-risk youth in Singapore.

WHAT WE DO

At Boys' Town, we believe in the potential of every young person, including those who have faced challenges or are disengaged from traditional support systems. Through a range of youth outreach services and school programmes, we provide a safe and supportive environment where they can rediscover their strengths, build resilience and create a brighter future. At the same time, we actively engage the community to foster an environment where at-risk youth can feel valued and supported.

HOW DO WE SUPPORT AT-RISK YOUTH IN SINGAPORE?

We offer a multi-faceted approach to support at-risk youth, combining targeted outreach initiatives with tailored intervention programmes. Our street outreach teams, for instance, connect with young individuals in their own environments, building trust and offering guidance. Through targeted programmes and individual counselling, we help the youth develop essential life skills and navigate challenges. Additionally, we actively advocate within schools and the wider community, fostering understanding and creating inclusive spaces where these individuals can thrive.

OUTREACH

Our outreach efforts form the heart of our youth development programmes in Singapore. We actively seek out and connect with at-risk youths in their communities, building relationships based on trust and understanding.

We utilise a variety of outreach methods to ensure we reach the youth where they are:

  • Street Outreach: Our dedicated youth workers venture into youth hotspots in the community to engage with youth in their own environment and offer support where the need arises
  • Network Outreach: We organise group activities to connect with a wider network of youth, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  • Programme Outreach: We collaborate with post-care programmes and schools to provide additional support and resources through community initiatives.
  • Social Media Outreach: Utilising platforms like Instagram and TikTok, we establish online relationships with the youth, offering guidance and resources in a digital space.

INTERVENTION

We also provide comprehensive intervention services designed to empower at-risk youths and support their personal, social and educational development. Through specialised intervention plans, we address the unique needs of each individual.

Our professional staff work closely with at-risk youths, offering:

  • Case Management: We provide ongoing support and guidance to help at-risk youths navigate challenges and access necessary resources.
  • Individual Counselling: We also offer a safe and confidential space for at-risk youths to explore their emotions, develop coping skills and build self-esteem.
  • Youth Development Programmes (YDPs): Through interactive activities within schools and communities, we promote personal growth, social skills and educational advancement for at-risk youths.

ADVOCACY

Our commitment to at-risk youth extends beyond direct support. Through a range of initiatives, we build bridges between young individuals and their surrounding communities, creating a network of support that empowers them to thrive.

Our advocacy efforts include:

  • Mental health community and school-based events: We organise dynamic roadshows and pop-up stalls to build awareness of youth mental wellness.
  • Workshops and Talks: We also conduct informative sessions to promote awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by at-risk youth.
  • Sharing Sessions with School Leaders: We engage in dialogue with school leaders to advocate for policies and practices that benefit at-risk youth.

OUR APPROACH TO YOUTH OUTREACH SERVICE

We prioritise the unique needs and perspectives of the youth, tailoring our outreach programmes to empower their individual journeys.

STRENGTH-BASED

We focus on recognising and building upon the inherent strengths and capabilities of the youth through outreach services that foster resilience.

SCHOOL PROGRAMMES FOR YOUTH & CHILDREN IN SINGAPORE

As one of the organisations that help at-risk youths in Singapore, Boys' Town offers a variety of school programmes designed to provide academic support and social-emotional learning opportunities.

POP-UP STORES: CANTEEN OUTREACH

We set up a lively atmosphere in school canteens through our pop-up stores. The stores offer a unique blend of play and engagement, specifically designed to address youth mental health. Staffed by enthusiastic youth workers, these spaces are dedicated to energising activities and games, fostering a sense of well-being. Here, students can explore mental health coping strategies while enjoying a series of interactive play activities.

COUNSELLING SERVICES

We offer therapeutic support aimed at enhancing the psychological, social, and emotional well-being of children, at-risk youths, and their families. These efforts include counselling, therapy, and parenting support. Clients are provided a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space as they navigate their challenges and build positive coping.

COACHING AND CASE MANAGEMENT

We focus on placing at-risk youths at the centre of our efforts, utilising a strength-based framework to support outreach, developmental programmes, and case management. These initiatives aim to foster personal, social, and educational growth, empowering at-risk youths to achieve their full potential. Our specialised services include Group Follow-up Activities (GFU) and Youth Development Programmes (YDPs) designed to address their needs.
