1 July 2021 – 30 Sep 2021
We often reminisce as a youth with the idea of having fun and live as if without a care in the world. It is also a unique period of transition and growth, where we discover and develop our talents and seek to secure independence as we navigate towards adulthood.
This 4 July 2021 marks Youth Day as celebrated in Singapore, in dedication to all the young people in our community. Boys’ Town is proud to be part of the community serving our youths. We exist to help and support youths who may face challenges at home with issues such as neglect, abuse and others that they may find difficult to cope with. We understand that there are some of these youths who may not have had an easy time growing up amidst these challenges.
15-year-old Clare*, the oldest child in the family, is often expected of her parents to take care of her younger siblings and help with managing the household chores. The constant pressures to meet her family’s needs consumed her at times and this resulted in tense disagreements with her father. She also faced other stressful situations in her life, including school as well as friends whom she struggled to draw boundaries with.
Today, Clare is actively involved in YouthReach, our youth outreach service, where one of our youth workers is in touch with her regularly. When she was first introduced to us in 2019, Clare was hesitant and was not very receptive towards the outreach of our youth workers.
Over the years of rapport and trust developed, Clare felt more at ease to open up and share more about her personal life and challenges with our youth workers and began to seek their guidance. Since then, she has participated in many of YouthReach’s programmes and workshops and has also introduced her circle of friends to us.
With a bright and bubbly personality, Clare began to enjoy interacting with people. She is today, eager to work at YouthReach to give back to the community, lending a listening ear and shoulder of support to other youths, just like how she has benefited from the support of the youth workers! We are heartened that the support she has received is inspiring her to extend the help to others as well.
This Youth Day 2021, we would like to invite you to join us as a Champion for Youths – with a donation to Boys’ Town to support our continuous work with our local youths. Your contribution will go a long way in helping to empower and impact the lives of more youths in their formative years and help them succeed. This is especially crucial as they navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and struggle to cope with the many difficulties and challenges.
We thank you in advance for your generosity and wish that you and your loved ones remain safe and well during these challenging times.
