26 MarCH to 30 JunE 2021
2021 is a special year for Sanctuary Care and we are delighted to share and celebrate 5 years of work helping over 110 vulnerable infants and children. As a service reliant on community support, your donations will enable us to run Sanctuary Care’s programmes and operations. Your kindness and contributions allow us to reach out and change the lives of those in the community who need our respite care services.
Through this Sanctuary Care appeal, we seek to raise $300,000 from 26 March 2021 to 30 June 2021 and the donations will support Sanctuary Care’s programmes and operations.
A commemorative story of Sanctuary Care’s 5th Anniversary
The sisters Kate, Kaelyn and Kaela* first found themselves at the door of respite carer Yvonne, with nothing but a bag of belongings each. They were anxious about what to expect. After all, their world was crumbling down. Their parents were going through a divorce and they had lost their home.
The girls’ father, William, was at a loss on how to care for his three girls aged between 5 and 14. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to find rental places that could accommodate them and he had no one to turn to for help. Out of desperation, William sought the help of a social worker in a Family Service Centre. Seeing an urgent need for a support system, the Social Worker contacted Sanctuary Care to provide care for the three girls.
Fortunately, Sanctuary Care was able to match Kate, Kaelyn and Kaela to respite carer Yvonne based on the family’s needs. Despite the girls’ initial hesitations about living with a stranger, they soon warmed up to Yvonne. Yvonne cared for the girls by cooking their favourite meal, bringing them to fun activities such as baking, swimming and ballet classes, and engaged the girls regularly in conversations to keep them emotionally healthy. The K sisters enjoyed Yvonne’s companionship and also felt comfortable sharing about their personal life with her.
During the 3 months of respite care for the K sisters, their father had the peace of mind from the regular updates that Sanctuary Care provided regarding his children’s progress. He was better able to focus on settling the family’s long-term accommodation and managing the ongoing divorce without having to worry about the safety and well-being of his three girls.
As Sanctuary Care continues our work in rendering help to children and families in-need through our respite care service, we seek your generosity and kind support and together, we can restore broken lives and heal hidden hurts.
