Fostering Love for Children
Mdm Ranimah and Mr Maszlan are dedicated parents who love children and have committed to helping those in need. Their positive experience with adopting a daughter motivated them to become foster parents.
In 2012, they applied to be foster parents with Boys’ Town Fostering Services, initially feeling a lack of confidence in caring for older children or those with special needs. However, they soon welcomed Beatrice*, a toddler with special needs into their home. Despite their initial challenges, they embraced the opportunity to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for her.
Embracing Challenges with Love and Support - Growing through Adversity
Before joining their family, Beatrice exhibited developmental delays and communication challenges. Despite the initial worry about her diagnosis, Mdm Ranimah and Mr Maszlan did not give up. They adapted quickly, dedicating time to understanding her needs and empathising with her. Boys’ Town Fostering Services also played a vital role by providing essential support to Mdm Ranimah and Mr Maszlan to assist with their care for Beatrice. They conducted frequent check-ins and enhanced monitoring to ensure Beatrice’s safety and development.
Taking Beatrice out in public was challenging because of her emotional dysregulation attracting curious glances. However, Mdm Ranimah learnt to disregard public judgment and focused on Beatrice’s well-being. She shared that “At the end of the day, you just have to do it with sincerity, in hopes that God will make the journey easier for you.” Beatrice now enjoys doing household chores and shows affection to her foster siblings. Mdm Ranimah also constantly encourages Beatrice to build her confidence and self-reliance.
Their story highlights the impact of compassion and dedication, inspiring others to consider making an impact on a child’s life. Mdm Ranimah and Mr Maszlan consistently show strong commitment to the caregiving of their foster children, patiently managing their needs. Apart from family support, they believe that sincerity is crucial in this arduous yet rewarding journey of fostering.
