2023 has been a significant year for the Boys’ Town family as we commemorate our 75th anniversary!
On 10 June, we organised the Family Fiesta at the Boys’ Town campus as part of a series of celebratory events. We were honoured to celebrate this significant milestone with President Halimah Yacob as our Guest-of-Honour alongside almost 400 friends of Boys’ Town, including clients, staff, and their families. Aiming to promote family bonding, the Family Fiesta had carnival games and kiddy rides, as well as food trucks and mascots to engage the families as they journey with their children in their growing up years.
On this special occasion, President Halimah Yacob and Boys’ Town unveiled a commemorative plaque celebrating the 75th Anniversary and launched a new Boys' Town song. Titled Move You, the Boys’ Town song was specially composed by a Boys’ Town youth worker as an ode to the meaningful work of the organisation, and a call to continue the social mission of serving disadvantaged children and youth.

Recognising Our Community Role Models
As part of the festivities, five Boys’ Town Family Awards were presented by President Halimah Yacob. The Family Award acknowledges and features families across Boys’ Town various services who have exemplified familial support for children and youth in need, and are role models in the Boys’ Town community. Recipients included foster parents, a volunteer respite carer, and a long-time staff who was an ex-residential boy.
Opening Our Hearts and Homes – Feature on Volunteer Respite Carer, Roma Goodlander
One of Boys’ Town Sanctuary Care’s volunteer respite carer, Ms Roma Goodlander, was one of the recipients of the Family Awards at the Family Fiesta. Having grown up in the U.S. Virgin Islands, an environment she likens to a kampong-like community, Ms Goodlander firmly believes in supporting the community when they are in need of help. Over the past 5 years, Ms Goodlander has opened her home to 15 children from Sanctuary Care, housing children in need temporarily whilst their families resolve personal or family crises. During their stay with her family, she provides the children stability and support as well as fun and new experiences, and builds relationships with the families she support.
