(1 December 2023 – 31 January 2024)
Christmas brings memories of holiday gatherings, the joy of giving, the spirit of togetherness, and creating cherished moments. However, this can also be a challenging time, especially for those who are unable to spend the festive season with their family.
Anna* never understood the joys of Christmas until she went to live with her foster family. When Anna was first brought to her foster parents' place, she was a timid child who struggled to speak to people. It was the welcoming nature of her foster family which led her to open up. Under their gentle guidance, encouragement, and motivation, she grew to become the independent and confident leader she is today.
Over the years, Anna has come to understand what her foster family means to her. It wasn’t all smooth sailing. All families come with their share of challenges and struggles and making mistakes is a part of life. However, the true essence of family is not only about sharing the good times, but also supporting each other in overcoming obstacles together. To this day, Anna remains thankful to her foster parents who stood by her side whenever she needed them and who had her best interest at heart, even if it meant nagging at her to express their care. It was these experiences that helped them forge stronger connections over time.
"You are more than just my foster parents. I have treated both of you like my own parents and will always look out for you. When I grow older, I will support both of you like how you have supported me when I was younger.”
They say that the best gift around the Christmas tree is the presence of family wrapped in love. Anna is glad to have found loved ones with whom she can spend this special time of the year.
Boys' Town is committed to providing a secure haven for children and youth, like Anna, because every child deserves to grow up in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment, surrounded by unconditional love and support.
