Brother Roger’s journey is a testament to the power of unconditional love and sincerity, and the transformative impact it can have on the lives of others.
Born on 22 March 1929 in Canada, Brother Roger had a childhood dream to spread the love of God to even the most distant part of the world from his home. Eventually, his prayers were answered when the opportunity arose for him to establish a Tailoring Section at the vocational institute at Boys’ Town in Singapore. At the young age of 23, Brother Roger packed his bags and embarked on a journey to fulfil his calling.
Embracing the Mission and Dedication to the Service
Brother Roger found great joy in running the Tailoring Section at Boys’ Town, nurturing his students to find pride in their projects. Through tailoring, Brother Roger also instilled invaluable life lessons in them that went beyond the craft itself, including perseverance and meticulousness. Despite his busy schedule, Brother Roger found happiness in the rewarding work he did.
Humble Leadership and Connection
Despite his position as teacher and supervisor, Brother Roger remained humble and treated the boys as equals. Despite challenges like language barriers, he managed to connect with the boys, who in turn guided and helped him improve his communication.
A Legacy of Serving with Love
Over the years, Brother Roger touched the hearts and lives of many boys who passed through the doors of Boys’ Town. To this day, they remember the unconditional love and care he had for them.
This year, Brother Roger celebrated his 95th birthday surrounded by the previous and current staff of Boys’ Town, and others who were impacted by his service over the years. We wish him many more years of good health and happiness, filled with love, laughter and cherished memories!
