With a population of 65 residents, the dormitories are one of the most utilized areas in Boys' Town Home. 60 years of use have taken their toll on the dormitory block and various sections are in a state of dilapidation.

Current Living Conditions

A typical dormitory in Boys' Town Home is designed for a maximum capacity of 30. Its facilities include:
A sleeping area with 30 beds and lockers.
    A bathroom/toilet that contains:
Three rows of six shower cubicles each
A row of six urinals and five squatting toilets
  A washing area
A Basin area that consists of:
Twenty four sinks, a water cooler and a fire hose.
A front parlor that serves as an interaction space
A back parlor that serves as an eating and living area.
A back veranda that is used for to dry laundry and store house-keeping equipment.

The dormitories are in critical need of improvement.
    Sleeping Area and Other Facilities:
The beds and lockers are placed too close together and do not allow the boys sufficient privacy
The existing wooden cupboards are over five years old and many are not in a good condition
The study area is not located in the dormitory block
The existing TV room can only accommodate 20 boys
There is no computer lab for the boys to do research for school projects
  There is no pantry
    Toilets and Basin Areas:
Doors to the shower and toilet cubicles are damaged.
There are missing shower heads and there are insufficient shower facilities.
The flush, plumbing and the piping systems are as old as the building
There is a lack of ventilation
All toilet bowls are the squatting types

Proposed New Dormitory

The new dormitory will be divided into four sections and house approximately 80 residents. The dormitory will have enlarged individual space with new beds, cupboards and lockers. There will be larger community spaces including a central area for reading and recreation.

Each dormitory will have its own improved bathroom and toilet facilities. This would reduce the waiting time with more privacy.

The plan also includes a computer room, equipped with 10 PCs, two scanners and two printers. The dormitory block will also contain a study hall, supervision office and TV room.

New emergency exits and fire staircases will also be installed.
